A major accident was narrowly averted on Wednesday morning in Sanot village, under Dhawala panchayat of Dehra subdivision, when the house of local resident Karnail Singh suddenly collapsed. Fortunately, no human casualties were reported, as the family was sleeping in another room and managed to escape just in time.
According to eyewitnesses, the structure began to crack and crumble without any prior warning. Acting swiftly, the family rushed out of the house, narrowly avoiding being trapped under the debris.
One of the family’s domestic animals, however, was caught under the rubble. With the prompt and coordinated efforts of nearby villagers, the animal was successfully rescued after some time, much to the family’s relief.
A woman member of the household expressed concern over the lack of immediate assistance, stating that although members of the panchayat reached the site soon after the incident, no emergency relief or support has been provided so far.
The family is now left without shelter and has appealed to the administration for quick aid and rehabilitation. The incident has once again raised concerns over the structural safety of rural houses, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season, which has already weakened many old constructions in the region.
Dehra SDM Kulwant Singh told The Tribune that the village revenue officer is preparing a valuation report of the loss incurred. Based on this, compensation will be sanctioned immediately as per the relief manual.
