The Sharma family from Ukhli village in Hamirpur district today donated Rs 1.01 lakh to the District Red Cross Society, fulfilling a promise they made last month. This donation was from the shagun received during the marriage of their daughter, Ayushi, to Vikul Sangwan in Zirakpur, near Chandigarh, on February 25.
Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh, along with other district officials, visited the home of Adarsh Sharma today. Adarsh Sharma handed over Rs 90,500—the shagun amount received by Ayushi—and contributed an additional Rs 10,500 from their own funds, making the total donation Rs 1,01,000 to the District Red Cross Society.
Expressing gratitude, Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh praised the Sharma family’s generous contribution. He also announced that Ayushi’s grandfather, OP Sharma, father Adarsh Sharma, mother Seema Sharma, and brother Apurv Sharma would be honoured as patrons of the District Red Cross Society. In addition, the groom, Vikul Sangwan, was granted lifetime membership of the society. Singh emphasised the vital role the Red Cross Society plays in assisting the poor and needy and urged more people to contribute to its cause, hoping that this gesture would inspire others.
On the occasion, a five-year-old girl named Silki also expressed her wish to donate to the Red Cross Society. Moved by her gesture, her mother gave her Rs 100 to hand over to the Deputy Commissioner, who is also the chairman of the society. The DC received the money from Silki and praised her for her kind-heartedness.
