The fancy vehicle registration number HP17H-0001 — that recently hit the headlines after an individual pushed the bid to as high as Rs 60 lakh, but opted out later — has been finally auctioned for Rs 11 lakh.
Manish Tomar from the Anj Bhoj region of the trans-Giri area in Sirmaur district was allotted the VIP number.
The government had earned Rs 1.55 lakh from the auction process. This included Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 2,500 forfeited by the bidder who had bid Rs 60 lakh, as well as Rs 2,500 non-refundable fee from another bidder. The auction concluded on July 14, with Manish Tomar submitting the highest bid.
It is believed to be the highest bid ever received for a fancy number plate at the Regional Licensing Authority (RLA), Paonta Sahib. In the past, the highest bid for fancy numbers has ranged between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh. Confirming the successful completion of the auction, Subdivisional Magistrate and RLA, Paonta Sahib, Gunjit Singh Cheema said the maximum bid amount had been deposited in the treasury.
