Shimla, May 27
Farmers staged a protest in eight districts of the state today, demanding an immediate financial assurance of Rs 10,000 per month each as compensation for losing their sources of livelihood due to the lockdown.
The protest was organised in response of the countrywide call given by the Akhil Bhartiya Kisan Sangharsh Samanyva Samiti (AIKSCC).
The protest was led by the Himachal Kisan Sabha in the state. Its president Kuldip Tanwar submitted a memorandum of demands to the Prime Minister through state Agriculture Minister Ram Lal Markande here today. The farmers said the government should also provide Rs 20,000 per acre compensation for the losses incurred by them due to hailstorms during the lockdown.
They demanded that the banks should be asked to stop charging Kisan Credit Card loan from farmers. Kisan Samaan Nidhi amount should be increased to Rs 20,000 per annum, they said.
