The HP High Court has directed the state government to file fresh status report indicating the timeline for filling up of vacant posts of medical officers in the state. During the course of hearing, Additional Advocate General placed before the court status report of August 31, 2024, indicating posting of certain staff nurses, Operation Theatre Assistants and Medical Superintendents at Civil Hospital, Rohroo, Shimla district.
It was further revealed in the report that the department has filled 25 posts of Medical Officers in different PHCs which were lying vacant. Surplus posts of 49 Medical Officers could not be posted earlier, but now 33 Medical Officers have been posted. It was further stated in the report that there is a proposal to fill 200 posts of Medical Officers on contract basis along with certain other posts.
While perusing the report, a division bench comprising Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice Satyen Vaidya observed that no timelines have been indicated in the status report as to when this recruitment of 1,450 posts including Medical Officers is to be completed. The court directed the state to file status report indicating the timelines for filling up of these posts by September 16. — OC
