Shimla, August 13
To address the shortage of medical professionals and support staff, the state government has approved the creation and filling of 489 new posts of various categories at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla, and the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty at Chamiyana in Shimla. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services.
As part of the newly sanctioned posts, the IGMC, Shimla, will receive several key additions, including 10 posts in general medicine, three in paediatrics, two each in orthopaedics, emergency medicine and ophthalmology and one position each in dermatology and ENT department. The deployment of the staff is expected to meet the increasing demand for specialised healthcare services in the region.
Similarly, the Chamiyana super specialty hospital will have its specialist departments strengthened with one new post each in urology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, endocrinology and gastroenterology. This expansion of specialist care will go a long way in providing specialised healthcare services to patients in these critical areas.
“The state government is prioritising the enhancement of healthcare services across the state. Besides strengthening the IGMC, the government is also filling 462 posts in various categories at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda. These measures are expected to significantly improve access to affordable healthcare for the underprivileged communities, bringing essential services closer to their doorsteps,” said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Besides specialist doctors, the government has also approved the recruitment of paramedical and other supporting staff, including 400 staff nurses, 43 operating theatre assistants, 11 nursing orderly-cum-dressers, two dieticians, one physiotherapist and four data entry operators. This influx of skilled professionals will ensure that the hospitals are well-equipped to deliver timely and effective care to patients.
