Finally, power restored in Malana village

Electricity has been restored in remote Malana village of Kullu district after a 41-day outage caused by heavy rainfall. Around 13 km of power lines and electricity poles were damaged in a cloudburst on August 1. The Malana power project infrastructure had also suffered considerable damage.

The HP State Electricity Board (HPSEB) restored power supply after much efforts. The restoration work, which involved laying around 4 km of new power lines through difficult and rugged terrains, was completed and power supply restored with the help of the Malana power project. To carry out repair work in such challenging geographical conditions was a difficult task.

Raju Ram, pradhan of Malana gram panchayat, expresses gratitude to the HPSEB for its efforts. “The restoration of power has brought back light and life to our village, and we are thankful to HPSEB officials, who managed to achieve this task despite severe challenges. It was indeed a daunting task,” he says.

However, the village continues to grapple with other pressing issues. The road damaged due to the cloudburst on August 1 caused severe transportation challenges for Malana. At present, villagers are paying up to Rs 1,500 as carriage charges for 30 kg of ration due to the lack of transportation facilities.

The authorities concerned are working to facilitate the transportation of essential supplies closer to the village. The installation of a span facility is expected to be completed by September 20.
