The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently organised four financial literacy camps in Mandi district, covering villages such as Gagal, Gram Panchayat Tunna, and Ratti. These camps were designed to educate locals on digital banking, secure payment methods, and financial safety measures, ensuring that people, especially in rural areas, can confidently navigate the evolving banking landscape.

Under the guidance of RBI’s Lead District Officer (LDO) Bharat Raj Anand and Financial Literacy and Credit Counselling (FLCC) Mandi’s Hari Singh Kaundal, the sessions focused on the benefits of digital banking while also emphasising critical security precautions. Anand highlighted the importance of cyber safety, urging participants to be vigilant about online transactions and to protect themselves from financial fraud. Alongside digital awareness, the officials also informed attendees about the grievance redress mechanisms available through banks and the RBI, ensuring they knew how to seek assistance in case of financial disputes or fraud.

A key highlight of the initiative was its focus on women’s financial literacy. More than 100 women participated in the camps, including Anganwadi workers, teachers, self-help group members, entrepreneurs, and homemakers. Kaundal introduced them to various government-backed financial schemes, such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, which specifically aim to empower women financially. The women were also guided on investment options, insurance plans, and financial security measures to help them make informed financial decisions.
