Firing incident at eatery; licensed weapon seized
In a bizarre turn of events, a heated argument between two individuals escalated into a violent altercation that culminated in one of them firing in the air using his licensed firearm at New Nalagarh area last evening.
According to a complaint filed on Thursday by Taranjeet Singh, the owner of Jugral Bar and Restaurant, a group of unidentified miscreants launched an unprovoked attack on his establishment. He alleged that the attackers, armed with cudgels, baseball bats and stones, vandalised his restaurant while hurling abuses.
Singh stated that when he stepped outside upon hearing the commotion, the assailants began abusing and pelting stones at him, smashing the windowpanes of his room. Despite his attempts to pacify them, the miscreants — reportedly under the influence of alcohol — continued their rampage.
Fearing for his safety, as well as that of his staff and property, Singh fired a warning shot into the air using his licensed weapon to disperse the mob.
Following the incident, police registered a case against the unidentified miscreants under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — Section 332(2) (house trespass), Section 324(4) (mischief causing loss) and Section 3(5) (common intention). Meanwhile, Taranjeet Singh was also booked under the Arms Act for discharging his firearm.
Confirming the incident, Additional SP Baddi Ashok Verma said, “An altercation occurred outside a restaurant. Fortunately, no one was injured.”
