The Kullu Municipal Council (MC) is set to organise the inaugural Kullu Mahotsav from December 25 to 31, aiming to attract tourists and promote local culture. Inspired by the success of the International Kullu Dasehra and the Spring Festival, the event will feature cultural programmes and canopy stalls along Mall Road at Dhalpur, similar to the Manali Winter Carnival.

Executive Officer Anubhav Sharma announced that the event will span the area from the T-point of Mall Road to Dhalpur Chowk, with arrangements, including a performance stage, high-tech sound systems, LED lighting, and festive decorations. The cultural programmes, scheduled daily from 4 pm to 10 pm, will showcase performances by schoolchildren, Mahila Mandals and renowned Himachali artistes.

The lineup includes folk singers Kushal Verma and Payal Thakur on December 25, Chandermani Toshi on December 26, Rajkumar and Khushboo Bhardwaj on December 27, Gopal Chaudhary on December 28, Gopal Sharma on December 29, Ramesh Thakur and Twinkle on December 30 and Nati King Thakur Dass Rathi and Sohan Sagar on December 31. Additionally, three evenings will feature captivating magic shows.

Around 70 canopy stalls will be set up along Mall Road, with 20 reserved for self-help groups. Stalls offering local products, crafts and various cuisines, including traditional Himachali dishes, will also be available at affordable rates. The MC has already initiated the stall allotment and auction process.

The council is optimistic that the festival will increase the town’s footfall and create a lively atmosphere for seven days. Tourism stakeholders also expect the event to boost visitor numbers and benefit the local economy. However, with temperatures dipping below freezing in the evenings, cold weather might challenge audience attendance during cultural programmes.
