Rural Development and Fisheries Minister Virender Kanwar today launched a campaign to introduce fish fingerlings into various reservoirs of the state. He kickstarted the campaign from Andauli village in Bangana where he poured a bucket containing fingerlings in the Gobind Sagar reservoir.
Kanwar said 6.64 lakh fingerlings of silver carp fish were introduced on which Rs 17 lakh was spent. He said fingerlings estimated at Rs 1.05 crore would be introduced into various lakes, including Chamera, Pong and Ranjit Sagar. Besides silver carp, some other fish species, rohu, katla and mrigul would also be introduced. He said the government had launched the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna to bring a blue revolution by establishing a robust fisheries management framework. — OC
