As Rajwati used the lighter to ignite LPG stove, the leaked gas triggered explosion, which threw open the door of the room, thus giving an opportunity to the inmates to rush out.

The injured were admitted to the Baddi Civil Hospital for treatment but were referred to the PGI as their condition was critical. Raj Kumar, who was entrusted with supplying LPG cylinders, survived as he was not at home when the mishap occurred. The Fire Department was informed about the mishap, but the fire engine could not reach the spot on time as it got stuck in a drain outside Var Public School.
