In an embarrassing incident, the national flag which was being hoisted by a tehsildar at Ramshehar in Nalagarh sub-division on the occasion of the 71st Republic Day yesterday fell on the ground due to weak rope much to the chagrin of the officer.
Though an alert policeman managed to prevent it from touching the ground it created an unpleasant situation for those present. The incident took place when the national anthem was being sung and tehsildar Bimla Kumari held the flag against the flagpole in a bid to hoist it till the completion of the national anthem which was being sung by a group of schoolchildren.
The incident has exposed poor arrangements made by the local administration to host the national flag. The incident occurred as the rope fastened to the flag to hoist it snapped mid-way, exposing the casual approach adopted in making arrangements to celebrate the Republic Day.
SDM Nalagarh Prashant Deshta said the issue has come to his notice and he would seek a report about it. Further action as per the findings would be initiated.
