The primary goal of these events was to encourage folk traditions and artistes, while also spreading awareness about the state’s vibrant culture. As part of this initiative, the Language and Culture Department of Himachal Pradesh was set to organising a district-level folk dance competition in Mandi, scheduled for December 17.

“The competition is open to teams, institutions, schools and colleges whose participants must showcase traditional folk dance forms, attire, songs and musical instruments that are specifically related to the district. The performances should reflect the local cultural heritage of Mandi”, she added.

“Each participating group is expected to consist of 20 to 22 performers, with each performance lasting between 12 to 15 minutes. In accordance with departmental rules, the participating groups will be provided with honorariums, travel allowances and daily allowances. The winning team will receive a trophy, a certificate and an opportunity to participate in the state-level competition,” she said.

“Interested teams, institutions, schools and colleges are requested to arrive at the District Language Officer’s office at Culture Bhawan, Kaganidhar, by 10 am on December 17 for registration and participation. For more details, participants can contact the office at phone numbers 01905-223315 or 98570-65800,” said Guleria.
