Just before the beginning of the new academic sessions, the Education Department (elementary) has issued strict guidelines to the private schools across the state to ensure clearing of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and passing of B.Ed for the recruitment of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs). The department has made the mandatory condition of TET qualification for the JBT as well as TGTs in the private schools at par with the state government schools, recently.

Inquiries reveal that, however, the TET has not been universally enforced in all states, but in view of the new education policy launched in 2020, the National Council for Teacher Education has decided to make the TET mandatory not only in the state-run schools but also in private schools keeping in view qualitative change in the education system. The state elementary education department has also made it mandatory in all private schools across the state.

Ajay Sambiyal, deputy director, elementary education, Dharamsala, told The Tribune that all private schools had been cautioned against violation of the TET qualification condition while recruitment of the teachers in their educational institutions. He also asked the management of private schools to ensure recognition and timely renewal of recognition of their institutions. “Apart from this, private school should also follow mandatory guidelines of school buses meant for ferrying students,” he added.

Sambiyal said during the inspection, if any violation of mandatory conditions and guidelines was found, strict action would be taken against the erring schools.
