Shimla: ‘Forensic Toxicology’ discussed
Shimla, March 6
The Himachal Pradesh Directorate of Forensics Services organised a two-day workshop on ‘Forensic Toxicology’ with an objective to explore and deliberate on better examination procedures for quick disposal and to reduce turnaround time and quality result output as per the international standards.
During the inaugural session, Director (retired) Central Forensic Science Laboratory (Ministry of Home Affairs) Dr Priyankar Ghosh said approximately 50 per cent sample intake in almost all the forensic science laboratories in India belongs to the forensic chemistry and toxicology sections.
“Due to the complexity in extraction of poison from biological matrix, the submission of report gets delayed. Each sample in toxicology requires systematic analysis, where the sample medium is very crucial,” said Ghosh.
He added that this workshop had helped in addressing misconceptions related to the extraction of drugs from samples.
During the workshop, meeting of the Scientific Working Group on Chemical Sciences, under the guidance of Dr Ghosh was also held with the objective to revise the existing working procedure manual of chemical sciences and, to update and improve the quality output.
Ghosh said a timeline had been set for developing the working procedure manual for chemistry and toxicology as per the international standards.
