Former DGP Negi laid to rest with state honours

The last rites of IB Negi, the first Director General of Police (DGP) of Himachal Pradesh, were performed with full state honors at his ancestral village, Sangla, in Kinnaur district.

Born on October 31, 1932, in Sangla, Negi was an esteemed 1958-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He served in key positions, including Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

In 1975, he underwent advanced training at the National Defence College (NDC). He played a pivotal role in establishing the Delhi Police Commissionerate in 1978 and later served as Deputy Director at CRPF Academy, Mount Abu, and Director (DO) at SSB Shimla.

Appointed Himachal Pradesh’s first DGP in 1986, he spearheaded modernisation efforts in the state police until his retirement in 1990. In 1988, he represented India at the Interpol Conference in Southeast Asia. He was honoured with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMS).

The Himachal Pradesh Government and police fraternity have expressed deep condolences on his passing, remembering him as a visionary leader and dedicated officer.
