The Himalayan Tribe Foundation organised a clean-up drive on the route of Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra and rid the area of the plastic waste left by visitors.

According to the foundation, with rising heaps of garbage, the situation is worsening every year. “Our goal is not just to clean up the area, but also send a message through these efforts that it is essential to protect the environment at such sacred and picturesque places, which are far from human settlement,” organisation’s head R.P. Negi Yullam said.

He added that whether it is a religious shrine or a tourist spot, the visitors must ensure the minimal use of plastic. “If they bring plastic items, they must take these back. There is a need for holding random inspections and awareness programmes at the base camps. Only then can we can succeed in preserving nature in its original form,” he said.

Yullam expressed gratitude to District Council Chairman Pankaj Parmar who has been continuously involved in the Shrikhand clean-up campaign for weeks, staying with the team in Parvati Bagh and raising awareness among people. He also thanked Nirmand SDM Manmohan Singh for encouraging the drive.
