In a decisive action against drug traffickers, the Solan police have placed four habitual offenders under preventive detention for three months.
Those detained include Ankush Thakur (36) and Naresh Kumar, alias Nishu, (37), both from Sirinagar panchayat in Kandaghat; Deepak Kumar, alias Honey, (40) of Dharampur and Vikas, alias Khaula, from Solan. All four have been repeatedly involved in heroin trafficking across the district and have multiple cases registered against them.
Solan SP Gaurav Singh said under the state-wide campaign against heroin traffickers, the district police are taking continuous action against repeat offenders. “As per the state government’s directions, four such habitual offenders have been taken into preventive custody under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, for a period of three months,” he said.
The step aims to deter habitual traffickers and curb the supply of narcotics in the district. So far, 10 habitual offenders have already been jailed this year under the same provisions. The SP said the preventive detention of such criminals will continue in the coming months.
