Over four months after 23-year-old Tanuj mysteriously disappeared near the Nahan bus stand, the Sirmaur police have yet to make breakthrough in the case. Despite repeated pleas by the family, progress in the investigation has been painfully slow, drawing criticism from both the victim’s father and the public.

Tanuj, a resident of the Kachha Tank area, went missing on April 11. His family had immediately lodged a missing person report at the Kachha Tank police post. However, an FIR was registered only on July 7 — nearly three months after his disappearance. The police claim that this delay was due to the time taken for preliminary probe.

Tanuj’s father, Shyam Singh, has now shared his anguish with the public. After approaching the police, the Deputy Commissioner and even the Governor without receiving any substantive response, the distressed father addressed mediapersons on Sunday. With tears in his eyes, he accused the police of inaction and raised serious questions over the investigation.

According to Shyam Singh, four individuals suspected of having links to Tanuj’s disappearance were named in the complaint, but no strict interrogation was carried out into the matter. He claimed that the last known location of his son was captured in the CCTV footage from the Dosadka area, but this clue was not pursued effectively.

“My son studied up to the tenth standard and was mentally sound. If he had left on his own, he would have contacted us within a month” said Shyam Singh, ruling out the possibility of Tanuj leaving home voluntarily. He alleged that someone among the four suspects might have harmed his son.

Sirmaur SP Nishchint Singh Negi said, “The police are investigating the case from all possible angles. No aspect is being overlooked.”
