Free check-up of sanitation workers every 6 months: DC

Medical camps will be organised twice a year to check the health of sanitation workers and appropriate steps will also be taken to provide them with free treatment facilities.

Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said this while inaugurating the free health check-up camp organised for sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation by the Health Department at Rain Basera in Dharamsala today.

He directed the MC officials to prepare a plan for providing residential facilities to the sanitation workers. Municipal officials were asked to conduct medical check-ups of sanitation workers at least once in six months.

ID cards would be provided to all sanitation workers on which blood group, PF number etc. would be mentioned. They would be given uniforms, raincoats etc, he said.

The Deputy Commissioner said that Safai Karamcharis would also be given benefits through various public welfare schemes of the government so that they can strengthen their social and economic status.

The Deputy Commissioner said that instructions had been given to take appropriate steps to solve the problems of Safai Karamcharis and their dependents.

Besides, they would be provided training in various fields for self-employment, he said.

Bairwa said that better arrangements would be made for the education of the children of sanitation workers. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Zafar Iqbal enumerated the facilities being provided to sanitation workers and also assured to take appropriate steps for immediate resolution of the problems of sanitation workers.

Mayor of Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, Neenu Sharma, also heard the problems of sanitation workers and directed the officers to resolve them on the spot.

The Deputy Commissioner said that sanitation workers were an integral part of the society. They had played an important role in making the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan successful, he added.

He said that during Covid, they rendered commendable services with a sense of social service.

The municipal bodies, should take appropriate steps to provide necessary facilities keeping in mind the interests of sanitation workers, he said.
