Severe cold has gripped the Trans-Giri area of Sirmaur district after the fourth spell of snowfall this season. Churdhar Peak received about 6 inches of snowfall. Due to which the electricity supply in the area was affected after 5 pm.

The residents have also been facing the problem of a lack of drinking water due to blockage of water pipes for about two months now and the electricity connections have been wonky for the past few weeks.

Snowfall began in the higher ranges of the Trans-Giri area today morning, which continued till late in the evening, while heavy rain occurred in the medium altitude areas of the district. Churdhar, the highest peak of the district and a famous religious and tourist destination, after the fresh spell has now accumulated 7-8 feet of snow.

A huge drop in the temperature of the area was also recorded after the snowfall. The minimum temperature recorded in Churdhar was -3°C while other higher altitude areas of the region also recorded a minimum temperature of 1°C.

Even in the plain areas, a significant drop in temperature was recorded after snowfall and rain. Today’s minimum temperature in Nahan was 9°C. Whereas in the industrial areas of Kala Amb and Paonta Sahib the minimum temperature recorded was 10°C. Due to snowfall, commuters complained of facing difficulty in driving.
