Garry Care Foundation, Nurpur: A legacy of social service
Garry Care Foundation (GCF), an NGO based in Nurpur, has been a pillar of support for underprivileged families for the past four years. The organisation has been actively assisting in the marriages of daughters from economically weaker families and providing financial aid for medical treatment.
The foundation was established in memory of Nikhil Garry, a young social activist from Chhatrolli village who tragically lost his life in a road accident on March 2, 2020, at the age of 22. Known for his selfless service, Nikhil and his friends often helped those in distress. To honor his legacy, his friends formed GCF and continued his mission of social welfare.
Led by Director Ankit Verma, the GCF has provided financial assistance of Rs 7 lakh for the marriages of 70 underprivileged girls, along with ration kits to support their families. Additionally, the NGO has spent Rs 8 lakh on medical aid for 40 patients suffering from serious ailments.
The foundation’s efforts extend beyond financial aid. Over the past four years, GCF has distributed clothes worth Rs 1.5 lakh to needy families and provided educational assistance of Rs 5,000 per child to eight students. It has also contributed Rs 1 lakh toward the care of stray and distressed cows and planted over 100 saplings for environmental conservation. To encourage sports activities, the GCF has organised badminton tournaments in the region.
With 25 active members and connections to around 200 donors and philanthropists via social media, GCF continues to expand its outreach. Registered under the Societies Registration Act in September 2021, the NGO operates under state government guidelines.
