A 14-year-old girl was killed while two others sustained injuries as stones fell on their vehicle and makeshift tent following a landslide near a petrol pump at Dhalli on the outskirts of Shimla city in the wee hours today.
All three belonged to the same family. They used to sell “desi medicines” in a vehicle and had also made makeshift arrangements for living there. The deceased was identified as Karina, daughter of Satpal, a resident of Zirakpur in Punjab. The injured identified as Asha (16) and Kulwinder (24) were admitted to the IGMC.
Meanwhile, a flash flood occurred at Thungi Khud in Murang tehsil of Kinnaur district. However, no loss was reported. The MeT has issued a yellow warning (July 7 and 10) and an orange warning (July 8 and 9) of heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning in low and mid hills.
Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Himachal. Tattapani was the wettest with 103 mm of rain, followed by Berthin 95 mm, Sunni 90 mm, Mashobra 82 mm, Kufri 81 mm, Dharamsala 76 mm, Jhanduta 70 mm, Bilaspur 63 mm, Narkanda 61 mm, Shillaro 57 mm, Renuka 57 mm, Manali 55 mm, Rampur and Palampur 52 mm each and Ghumarwin 50 mm.
The minimum temperatures decreased by one to two degrees. Narkanda recorded the minimum temperature of 12.9°C while Mandi recorded the maximum temperature of 32.8°C.
