The inquiry report submitted by the hostel warden to chief warden Roshan Lal Zinta yesterday rejected the allegation that a girl student was subjected to ragging at the Chandrabhaga Girl’s Hostel of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, recently. It stated that no such incident of ragging took place in the hostel and the issue was related to a minor argument between a junior and a senior girl student.
The report stated that the allegation of ragging was baseless and the issue was unnecessarily being raked up. The incident allegedly took place in the Chandrabhaga Girl’s Hostel of the university following a minor argument between two students. The university authorities had ordered the warden of the hostel to conduct an inquiry into the alleged incident and submit a report to the chief warden.
During the inquiry, around 52 boarders approved by the warden denied that such an incident of ragging happened in the precincts of the girls’ hostel. The warden stated that no student submitted any oral and written statement to her regarding the incident.
The warden said, “It was a minor argument between two boarders related to a lighting issue. One of the prefects told her that she should have first reported the problem to the prefect then to the clerk and the warden.” The warden claimed that the Chandrabhaga hostel was known for its discipline and tradition of cooperation. “A positive scenario of affectionate, cordial, respectful cooperation and proper guidance among all boarders encourages the overall development of girls students. It created an energetic and progressive scenario and the boarders find themselves in a safe place. This hostel maintains zero tolerance against ragging in any form. Therefore, it is concluded that no act of ragging had taken place in the hostel. Rather, it was a rumour or misunderstanding between two boarders,” stated the warden.
