National Sanitation Workers Commission Vice-Chairperson Anjana Panwar today emphasised the need to take necessary steps for the permanent appointment of sanitation workers in all local bodies and various departments of Chamba district to ensure that the future of their children was secure.

She made these remarks while presiding over a review meeting organised at the Bachat Bhawan, Chamba, regarding the resolution of issues faced by sanitation workers and their dependents as well as their rehabilitation and self-employment.

Panwar stressed on making sanitation workers an integral part of society and enhancing their economic and social status. She also directed them to prepare a joint proposal for the promotion of sanitation workers working under the municipal councils of Chamba, Dalhousie and Chowari nagar panchayat and to submit it before the state government, along with issuing guidelines to prioritise cases for appointments on compassionate grounds.

Addressing the families affected by the landslide at the Pakka Tala locality of Chamba town, she directed the district administration to take the necessary action in this regard. During a dialogue with sanitation workers on various issues, she instructed the municipal authorities to provide sanitation workers a day’s off in a week and also ensure complete arrangements for their health check-up twice a year, issuance of identity cards and the provision of changing rooms at the workplace according to the weather.

Panwar also gave directives to adjust the working hours of the female workers according to school timings and to construct community buildings near residential colonies of sanitation workers, ensuring library facilities in these buildings.

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal welcomed the Vice Chairperson of the National Sanitation Workers Commission. He assured compliance with the given instructions and assured to take necessary steps within the specified time frame. He also stated that the commission would be informed of the progress made on the given directives.

Police Superintendent Abhishek Yadav, Additional District Magistrate Rahul Chauhan, Assistant Commissioner PP Singh, SDM Chamba Arun Sharma, District Health Officer Dr Jalam Bharadwaj, Deputy Director Higher Education Pyar Singh Chadha, along with officials from various departments and sanitation workers were among other present on the occasion.
