Ravinder Sood
Palampur, May 6
Parminder Bhatia (40) has emerged as a Covid warrior of Palampur, as he has cremated the bodies of several persons, who died of the virus. His services have been recognised by various social bodies, state agencies and the local Rotary Club. A tireless worker, Bhatia has been devoting time and money to serve people.
“Many times, family members fear touching the bodies of their near and dear ones, who have succumbed to Covid-19. Even in small towns like Palampur, Baijnath Jaisinghpur, on an average, 10 persons are dying everyday and similar is the situation in villages,” said Bhatia while interacting with The Tribune.
“By providing a dignified cremation to the Covid victims, Bhatia’’s initiative spreads hope among the families which are unable to cremate their dear ones due to the restrictions,” said Dharmesh Ramotra, SDM, Palampur.
Bhatia is the head of the local “Sani Seva Sadan” that has been working for the welfare of people for the past 10 years. Since the virus started spreading in Kangra district, Bhatia has been helping Covid patients by transporting them to hospitals, providing them necessary medical aid, food etc on their doorsteps and by helping the bereaved families in cremating the lost dear ones. He has especially proved to be a boon to aged patients, who are living alone and have no family support here.
