The state government will start procuring naturally-grown wheat at the minimum support price of Rs 60 per kg and raw turmeric at the MSP of Rs 90 per kg under the Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana from May 15.

Secretary (Agriculture) C. Paulrasu said that farmers had been identified for the procurement of wheat and turmeric produced through natural farming. He added that the MSP fixed by the state government for naturally-grown maize, wheat, raw turmeric and barley was the highest in the country.

He said that the Department of Agriculture had initiated the process to certify Pangi as a natural farming subdivision. A committee had been constituted under the Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana for a survey in Pangi for the large area certification under the Participatory Guarantee Scheme, he added.

“The state government is focusing on strengthening the rural economy. In this regard, efforts are being made to uplift the economy of farmers and increase their income in harmony with nature through the low-cost, non-chemical natural farming technique,” said Paulrasu.
