Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, attending the state-level floral tribute ceremony on Fire Service Day at the Fire Training Centre in Baldeyan, Shimla, announced that a Forest Rights Act (FRA) case would be initiated to legally transfer land to the Fire Training Centre. The step is aimed at enabling the establishment of dedicated infrastructure and training facilities for the fire department.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Singh lauded the critical role of the fire department during disasters, stating, “Firefighters are often the first responders, risking their own lives to save others without concern for their own families.”

He said Fire Service Week is observed from April 14 to 20 in memory of the firefighters who lost their lives in the Bombay Docks fire of 1944. “The challenges faced by fire personnel are often overlooked, with criticism sometimes directed at delayed responses or inadequate equipment, without understanding the conditions they work under,” he said. “Despite such challenges, the fire service personnel remain committed to public safety,” he added.
