Govt committed to enhancing edu infrastructure, says minister
The Himachal Pradesh Government has launched the Mukhyamantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana, a welfare initiative aimed at supporting widows, destitute women, divorced women and parents with disabilities in providing proper care and education for their children. Under the scheme, eligible children will receive a monthly grant of Rs 1,000 until the age of 18 to cover educational, health and nutritional needs. Additionally, financial assistance will be provided for tuition fees and hostel expenses for undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses.
The announcement was made by Education Minister Rohit Thakur at a ceremony in Dhar-Tikri in the Pachhad Assembly constituency, where he also laid the foundation stone for a new building for Government Senior Secondary School at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. Speaking at the event, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and ensuring quality education across the state.
Highlighting the historical significance of Pachhad, the minister acknowledged the region’s connection to Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar, Himachal Pradesh’s first Chief Minister. He said the government would meet local demands in a phased manner. On the occasion, he announced the renaming of Government Senior Secondary School Mangan in honour of martyr Naik Rajesh and granted Rs 15,000 to students for their vibrant cultural performances.
Earlier, Acting Principal Ripipal Sharma welcomed the minister with a traditional Himachali shawl, cap and memento and presented the school’s annual report.
As part of the visit, the minister inaugurated a newly constructed Science Block at Government Senior Secondary School, Kunji, built at a cost of Rs 51 lakh. The new block includes three laboratories, an art and craft room and a library, addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges. The facilities are expected to greatly benefit senior secondary students pursuing practical-based science subjects.
During the event, Headmaster Pradeep Singh Garnet and former MLA GR Musafir also honoured the minister with traditional Himachali attire. Students performed a series of cultural programmes, earning an additional Rs 15,000 from the minister as encouragement.
The minister also addressed grievances raised by local residents and directed officials to ensure their timely resolution. The programme was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Anand Parmar, Dayal Pyari and Dr Priyanka Chandra (Pachhad SDM), along with officials from various departments.
