Govt committed to provide quality edu in remote areas: Minister

Education Minister Rohit Thakur today attended the annual prize distribution ceremony at Government College, Theog, as the Chief Guest and said that the state government is committed to provide quality education in remote areas and is making continuous efforts towards this goal.

Addressing the people on the occasion, the minister said that tough decisions are being taken by the state government in the education sector. “One such decision was to prohibit teachers’ transfers during the academic session to ensure that students' studies are not disrupted. These strict decisions will lead to positive outcome. Also, according to the ASER report, Himachal Pradesh secured the first position in reading and learning,” he said.

Thakur said that talented students from the state are being sent on exposure visits to countries like Singapore and Cambodia. “Around 100 vacant posts of principals in colleges have been filled through promotions and 19 regular principals have been appointed. Similarly, 37 positions of Deputy Directors have been filled through promotions. Additionally, 484 Assistant Professor positions have been recruited, filling 80% of the vacant posts,” said the minister.

“Similarly in the primary education sector, the state government has also recruited 3,500 teachers through the Bhasha Education Commission and around 3,100 teachers have been appointed through the commission. Furthermore, over 700 Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) posts have been filled,” he said.

The minister further said that every possible effort is being made to improve the quality of education. “Despite financial challenges, the state government has allocated a budget of Rs 9,850 crore for the education sector, which constitutes about 17% of the total budget,” he added.

He also mentioned that an administrative approval of Rs 6.37 crore has been granted for a Multi-Purpose Hall at the Government College, Theog. “The construction work will begin once the financial regulatory permission is received. Efforts will also be made to introduce vocational subjects in the college, and vacant non-teaching positions will be filled,” he said.
