State BJP president Rajeev Bindal today alleged that the state government had created a mess in the Education Department by closing 1,500 schools and colleges, causing hardships to students, especially in rural areas.

Bindal, in a statement issued here, said that the decision of the government to close schools and colleges forced many children to drop out while others had to trudge many kilometres to reach their educational institutions. “First, the government issued the dictate to close 900 educational institutions and later shut 600 more schools and colleges. This forced many children to either drop out or take admission in private schools,” he added.

Bindal said that the decision to promote English as the medium of teaching in government schools also left students in the lurch. “Now, the latest move to create one Directorate for School Education has led to another controversy; teachers are on a warpath against this decision. When it was difficult to manage schools run under different directorates, the creation of one directorate would only add to chaos,” he alleged.
