The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) has been implemented in the state to provide irrigation facility to farmers. A spokesperson for the Agriculture Department said that the objective of the scheme was to help farmers grow more cash crops and enhance their income.
“Under the scheme, with the use of solar pumps, irrigation water would be made available to farmers. Besides, various irrigation schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Pravah Irrigation Scheme and the Suksham Irrigation Scheme have been implemented in the state,” he said.
The spokesperson said under the PM KUSUM, a provision of 85-per cent financial assistance for pumping machinery had been made for setting up solar pumps at personal and community level by farmers. In the current financial year, a provision of Rs 12 crore had been made under the scheme. He said a target of setting up 1,000 solar pumps had been set for this year, for which 50 per cent expenditure would be borne by the Centre and 35 per cent by the state government, whereas 15 per cent would be borne by the beneficiary.
He said priority would be given to Kisan Vikas Sangh, Krishak Vikas Sangh and registered organisation of farmers under Society Act 2006. Under the scheme, priority would also be given to small and marginal farmers who are dependent on rain for irrigation.
Farmers can apply for assistance under the scheme at Land Conservation Office. The farmer has to submit required land documents, self-attested ration card, photocopy of Aadhaar card, land certificate and affidavit.
