The Rural Development Department of Himachal Pradesh signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Waste Warriors Society (WWS), an NGO working in the Indian Himalayan region, to promote sustainable waste management across the state’s rural areas. The MoU was signed in the presence of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh.

“This partnership marks a significant step towards achieving cleaner and healthier villages in Himachal Pradesh,” said the Minister. He further emphasized that the collaboration is essential for realising the vision of a clean and sustainable rural Himachal. By leveraging WWS’s expertise and the department’s reach, the initiative aims to create long-term positive change.

The agreement outlines a comprehensive strategy focusing on a multi-pronged approach to address rural waste challenges. Key initiatives include capacity building, awareness campaigns on responsible waste practices, hands-on training in composting, waste collection, recycling, and the development of necessary infrastructure.

This MoU adds to previous collaborations with Ambuja Cements Ltd. Darlaghat, UltraTech Cements Ltd., and the Healing Himalayas Foundation. Secretary of the Rural Development Department, Rajesh Sharma, noted that this alliance represents a strong commitment to building a greener and healthier Himachal. Director Raghav Sharma highlighted the importance of community involvement through Gram Panchayats, exposure visits, and promoting locally-driven waste solutions.

Vishal Kumar, CEO of WWS, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited to bring our experience to empower rural communities in managing waste and building a cleaner environment.”

Together, these efforts aim to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainable development in Himachal Pradesh’s villages.

Minister launches e-Parivar mobile app

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh today launched the e-Parivar mobile app for Aadhaar seeding, authentication and maintenance of cattle records along-with the online sanction management system for Panchayat Ghars, here today.

He said all districts of the state have been instructed to complete the household survey within 30 days. The task would be monitored by ADCs, ADMs and PO ITDPs as District Nodal Officers to ensure timely and effective execution. Apart from this the Panchayati Raj department has developed an online sanction management system to streamline the monitoring of sanctions related to the construction, repair and up-gradation of Panchayat Ghars, he added.
