Himachal government releases Rs 94.46 crore for day-boarding schools

Construction underway on war footing, says spokesperson

The state government has released Rs 94.46 crore for establishing Rajiv Gandhi day-boarding schools across Himachal. One such school will be established in every Assembly constituency and 42 locations across the state have been identified so far.

A government spokesperson said these schools would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and would play a vital role in ensuring the holistic development of children living in rural areas. “These schools will provide children access to quality education as well as improved sports infrastructure to nurture sporting talents,” he said.

He stated that the education sector was going through a transformative phase under the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government. “The day-boarding schools are set to become a milestone in this direction,” he added.

The spokesperson said the construction of the schools was underway on war footing in Hamirpur district. “The work is on in all five constituencies in Hamirpur. At Amlehar, the primary wing of the new Day-Boarding School will start functioning from next academic session,” he said, adding that in Bilaspur district, Rajiv Senior Secondary School, Hatwar, was being converted into a day-boarding school. “For the purpose, 25 bighas have been transferred to the Education Department and Rs 3.50 crore has been released to HIMUDA for construction purpose,” he said.
