The state government has restructured all educational institutions in Hamirpur town to convert Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government Post Graduate College into a dedicated science institute. It has been learnt that the Education Secretary had notified the changes made in these institutions through a notification issued on December 4.

The notification stated that the college would have only science streams and a B.Ed College of Science would also be operated from its campus. It added that Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, which was recently affiliated to the CBSE, would be merged with Government Senior Secondary School for Girls, which would be operated as a co-educational institution, while the existing campus of the boys school would be utilised for arts and commerce streams shifted from the college.

Mushtak Mohammad, principal of the boys school, said that the new system, as per the notification, would start from the next academic session, April 2026 onwards.

Meanwhile, the notification has raised hackles among the people of the town. Local resident Rajesh Kumar said that the government should review its decision as the school that was recently affiliated to the CBSE would not be able to meet the requirements on the girls school campus. He added that even the students of the college, which had better facilities for sports and other activities, would suffer.

Poonam Rana said that the government should merge girls school with boys school and should start a B.Ed college on the girls school campus while the college should remain in the existing building. The rising strength of students in the college in the heart of the town would lead to congestion and hamper peace.
