Education Minister Rohit Thakur today said the government would shortly fill 937 posts of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) through the Rajya Chayan Aayog. Applications have been sought for 425 TGTs in arts, 343 in non-medical and 169 in medical stream. The selected candidates will be appointed as trainee, with a pay scale Rs 22,860 per month. The recruitment will help Education Department fill up vacancies in the remote areas of districts like Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu and Chamba, where many schools do not have teachers. There are many schools where the TGT medical and non-medical are not available, causing irreparable damage to the students.

In the Class XII results announced a while back of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, all 21 students failed in a school in Sirmaur district as the school did not have maths and science teachers for more than two years. Apart from fresh recruitment, the department is trying to provide teachers in every school through rationalisation of postings as well. There are teachers in many schools in urban areas and the department has been trying to deploy them in schools where there’s shortage of teachers.

The minister expressed confidence that the state would perform well in the upcoming National Assessment Survey as well. While visiting a private school at Rohru, the minister expressed concern about the increasing trend of drug abuse among youth and stressed the need for collective efforts to prevent it.
