Chamba, February 26
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and various labour organisations, under the banner of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged a protest outside the Chamba Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday. The protesters demanded a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price. Earlier, the protesters took out a march across town led by CITU district president Narender and general secretary Sudesh Kumari.
Kumari said there were protests happening across the country against the injustices faced by farmers and labourers as the PM Modi-led government continued to ignore these two important sections of society and was implementing anti-farmer and anti-labourer policies.
The CITU leader said while more than 700 farmers lost their lives in the stir against the three farm bills in 2021-2022, brutal atrocities had been committed against the farmers once again this time.
“Farmers’ tractors were broken and vehicles were damaged. They should be properly compensated through a legal investigation. The murder of a young man is a political murder, and a case should be filed against Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Home Minister Amit Shah,” she said.
According to Kumari, the government should also roll back the four labour codes, which were brought in 2020, as they were against the interests of labourers.
