Himachal Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, CM Sukhvinder Sukhu pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi
Shimla, January 30
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary at the Ridge, here today.
Shukla said, “Gandhi ji led India to freedom through a non-violent struggle. His message of truth and non-violence is relevant even today, and the entire nation remains indebted to him for leading one of the world’s biggest non-violent movements and showing the power of a peaceful struggle to the world.”
Sukhu said Gandhi’s leadership and dedication towards non-violence played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle. He called upon the citizens to draw inspiration from his ideals and incorporate them in their lives as a genuine tribute.
Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, and this day is observed as Martyr’s Day in India. Two minutes of silence were observed and patriotic songs and bhajans were also recited.
Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma, state Congress president Pratibha Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur, MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Forest Development Corporation chairman Kehar Singh Khachi, Shimla MC Mayor Surinder Chauhan, students and other prominent people were also present.
