Governor gifts battery-operated wheelchairs to 2 differently abled siblings in Solan
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla helped two siblings struggling with severe disabilities by gifting them automatic wheelchairs as a Diwali gift. Anita (18) and her brother Sunil (21), hailing from Panjani village in Mamlig sub-tehsil of Solan district, suffer from 100 per cent disability since birth due to cerebral palsy. Baburam, the head of the BPL family, works as a daily wage labourer in Kunihar to support the family.
President of Umang Foundation, Ajay Srivastava, had informed the Governor about the siblings’ ordeal, and requested him to give them the battery-operated wheelchairs. The Governor immediately ordered to provide wheelchairs to the siblings from Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society. The siblings’ mother, Bina Devi, said the duo could neither walk nor speak properly. Due to ignorance and poverty, the parents could not send them to school, and these children had spent all these years sitting at one place in the house. With the help of these wheelchairs, the siblings would now at least be able to move in and around their home. The siblings have another brother who is looking for a job after completing his Class XII studies. “We couldn’t even imagine that my children would get such a gift from the Governor,” said their mother.
According to Sanjeev Sharma, assistant secretary of the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society, the Governor has donated nearly 20 automatic wheelchairs to severely disabled people of BPL families.
