Himachal Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla champions culture & anti-drug mission at Eruption–2025

At the vibrant valedictory ceremony of Eruption–2025, the inter-college fest hosted by Government Dental College and Hospital, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla called upon the youth to join hands in the fight against drug abuse. Stressing the importance of awareness and unity, he said the anti-drug campaign, inspired by the Prime Minister, was not just a mission but a movement and the active role of students is vital for its success.

“Himachal is a land of honesty and simplicity, which some anti-social forces try to exploit. We must act together to eliminate this growing menace,” the Governor said. He also lauded the contributions of ‘Medivision’, the doctors’ association at IGMC, for their proactive involvement in the campaign.

Speaking at the event, Governor Shukla emphasized the powerful blend of education and culture, adding that festivals like Eruption showcase this synergy beautifully. He praised the college management and student council for organizing a creative and energetic event, while also applauding the impressive cultural performances. The vibrant display of talent, he said, reflected the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.

Moved by the students’ performances and their passion, he announced a contribution of Rs 2 lakh from his discretionary fund to support and encourage such artistic initiatives. “Eruption is not just a celebration of culture or academics—it’s a stage for talent, teamwork, leadership, and collective vision,” he noted.

He highlighted the role of such platforms in shaping well-rounded individuals, giving students a space beyond classrooms to explore music, art, and leadership.

Commending the efforts of Government Dental College since its establishment in 1994, the Governor said that dental education goes beyond technical skill—it is a domain of compassion, responsibility, and service. He encouraged young professionals to stay updated with technological advancements and uphold high standards of care.

The Governor also felicitated outstanding performers. Earlier, Principal Dr. Ashu Gupta shared a detailed overview of the college’s academic journey. SCA President Dr. Muskaan presented insights into Eruption–2025, while General Secretary Dr Vaidehi Sharma delivered the vote of thanks. The event was also graced by IGMC Principal Dr. Seeta Thakur, faculty, and other distinguished guests.
