In a significant move to combat drug abuse, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today announced that students seeking admission to Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, will be required to sign an anti-drug pledge.
This announcement was made during the 35th court meeting of the university, where the Governor emphasised the need for collective efforts to address the issue of drug abuse at the college level. He further said that the university administration will also raise anti-drug awareness among parents through letters and emails. This initiative is part of the university’s efforts to promote a healthy and productive academic environment.
During the meeting, the Governor approved the annual reports for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23 as well as the annual accounts for 2018-19. He also expressed concern over the absence of several members in the court meeting and directed that his displeasure be conveyed to the individuals concerned.
The Governor stressed the importance of quality education, innovation and moral values, emphasising that the primary responsibility of the University Court is to determine comprehensive policies and programmes for the institution. He also instructed the university administration to present annual reports and prepare annual accounts in a time-bound manner.
The Governor urged everyone to work with dedication, discipline and a spirit of innovation. “The objective of our education system should not be to merely award degrees but to nurture citizens capable of serving society and the nation. Through education, we must realise the vision of a self-reliant India,” he said.
