Habitual drug offender detained in Kullu
The Himachal Pradesh Police have detained a habitual offender under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act in Kullu district. The accused has been identified as Mani Ram, a resident of Thraimbla village in Banjar tehsil.
According to the police, Mani Ram was detained under the PITNDPS Act. Three NDPS cases are registered against him and cannabis and heroin (chitta) have been recovered from his possession. He was actively engaged in drug trafficking though he had been arrested earlier. On the recommendation of the Kullu police, the detaining authority approved his preventive detention and he was taken into custody at the District Jail, Kullu, on March 31 for three months. So far, 15 accused have been detained under the PITNDPS Act.
According to the police, financial investigations are being conducted against all individuals detained under the Act, which will lead to the freezing and subsequent forfeiture of their properties acquired through illicit drug trafficking.
