Hamirpur district suffers over Rs 43.9-crore loss in rainy season

Hamirpur, August 19

The district has suffered damages to the tune of over Rs 43.9 crore due to rain-related incidents this monsoon season so far. In a daily damage report of the disaster management authority, Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh here today said the major loss was caused to the Public Works Department, followed by Irrigation and Public Health Department.

He said the PWD had reported loss of over Rs 22.93 crore, while IPH had suffered damages to the tune of Rs 20.12 crore. He added that the electricity board had reported loss of over Rs 45 lakh to its property.

The DC said a loss of about Rs 45 lakh to private property was also reported in the district. Nine persons had died during this season, including two deaths due to electrocution, three by drowning and four in road accidents.

The DC said the crop loss was estimated at over Rs 27 lakh so far. He advised people living on the banks of rivers and streams to not venture near water bodies as the water level could rise abruptly.

He added that the DDMA teams are keeping vigil on 24x7 basis to protect people in case of emergency.
