Hamirpur hit-and-run case accused held

Was suspected of involvement in drug-trafficking

The police on Friday arrested an accused who had fled after ramming his car into the vehicle of a police team, led by Inspector Kulwant Singh, SHO of the Hamirpur Sadar police station.

The accused has been identified as Rasik, a resident of Lalhadi village near Hamirpur. The police had intercepted his vehicle on the suspicion of involvement in drug-trafficking.

Superintendent of Police Bagat Singh Thakur said the accused was produced before a court that sent him on a judicial remand for 14 days.

The police have recovered the vehicle, which was allegedly involved in the hit-and-run case. It was inspected by a team of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory.

The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and also charged the accused with attempt to murder.

The SP said the police would continue to wage a ‘war against drugs’ in the district, and anyone involved in drug peddling would not be spared.
