Hamirpur medical college to get cardiology department
Hamirpur, July 17
The Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to establish a cardiology department at Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College here. The establishment of the new department would be of a great help to patients suffering from heart diseases.
The government took this decision in the recent Cabinet meeting held on July 12.
Principal Dr Ramesh Bharti said following load of heart patients, the college authorities had intimated the government about the need of a cardiology department here. He added that he was only aware of the Cabinet decision and was waiting for an official notification from the authorities for the establishment of the department.
The Cabinet had also decided to add additional vacancies, including a professor, one assistant professor and one senior resident doctor, to run the department. The establishment of the department would provide facilities to patients, who usually visit PGI-Chandigarh, AIIMS-Bilaspur and IGMC-Shimla, besides private hospitals.
Meanwhile, the government had also decided to establish other medical facilities here.
Dr Bharti said the medical college is attending over 1,500 patients every day, adding that once the campus building would be completed, the college would be able to handle more patients.
