Hamirpur pays homage to martyrs

The war heroes of Kargil War were remembered on Kargil Vijay Diwas at a programme organised by the district administration on the premises of Shaheed Captain Mridul Sharma Park here today. Notably, this park is being developed as a war memorial.

Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh; Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur; vice-president of Himachal Pradesh Ex-Servicemen Corporation Colonel PS Atri; Executive ADC Rakesh Sharma; Assistant Commissioner Rajiv Thakur; Executive Engineer of Public Works Department Vijay Chaudhary; Deputy Director of Sainik Welfare Department Squadron Leader Manoj Rana; along with other officials and ex-servicemen; paid floral tributes to the fallen soldiers.

The Deputy Commissioner said the brave soldiers of India had displayed indomitable courage in extremely challenging circumstances and won the Kargil War. He added that eight soldiers, of the 52 soldiers from the state martyred in this war, were from Hamirpur. While 52 soldiers of the state made the supreme sacrifice.

Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal also paid tributes to the martyrs at a function organised at Sameerpur. Dhumal said the Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of the soldiers who fought for the country in the tough terrains of Kargil. He added that the country would remain indebted to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while protecting the nation.
