Hamirpur, June 17
Ankush Thakur (21), a third-generation soldier, was martyred in the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese army soldiers at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh on Monday night.

Ankush, a resident of Kadohta village in Bhoranj subdivision of Hamirpur district, had joined the Indian Army in 2018 and was commissioned in Punjab Regiment 10 months ago after completing his training at the Army Training Centre, Faizabad. Ankush’s father Anil Thakur and grandfather had also served in the Indian Army. The younger brother of the martyr is studying in Class VI.
Gloom descended on Hamirpur district as soon as the information about his martyrdom reached Kadohta gram panchayat. Ward panch Vinod Kumar said that he got a call from the Army Headquarters informing him about Ankush Thakur’s martyrdom in the LAC clash.
Amit Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer at Bhoranj, also confirmed the martyrdom of Ankush, a resident of Karohta village. He said that the administration was in touch with the Army authorities for the transportation of the martyr’s mortal remains, which are expected to reach the village late in the evening. His creamtion is likely to take place tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has expressed grief over Ankush’s martyrdom. He prayed to the almighty for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family members. He said that Ankush would always be remembered for his martyrdom to safeguard the borders of the country.
The Chief Minister said that an advisory had been issued in Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts to take all precautionary measures — Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts are located along Tibet in China. He added that the police had been directed to share all information with the Army authorities.
Governor Bandaru Dattatreya said, “Our soldiers displayed exemplary courage in the line of duty”. Ankush will be given a state funeral, an official said. (with IANS inputs)
