Hamirpur suffers Rs 9.04 crore rain loss

The incessant rain in the district in the past 10 days has caused a loss of over Rs 9.04 crore. Amarjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority, said that the Public Works Department had suffered major a loss of over Rs 5.87 crore while the damage to the property of the Jal Shakti Department was to the tune of Rs 2.92 crore and the electricity board Rs 7.04 lakh.

He added that government and private property had suffered a loss of about Rs 11.65 lakh during the past 24 hours across the district. A kutcha house was damaged while four huts valued Rs 9 lakh collapsed. Two cow shed were damaged and one cow has died due to lightning.

The DC said that field officers and employees of all departments have been directed to immediately send reports of the damage caused in their areas so that help could be provided to the affected people.

He added that in view of the rains, the residents of the district should take special precautions and should not go near rivers and streams. He also advised people to stay away from places prone to landslides.
