Himachal's Handicraft, handloom products will be promoted on social media: Minister

Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan today directed the Himachal Pradesh State Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation to prepare promotional videos for handicrafts and handloom products. The videos will be uploaded on social media to promote and revive the consumption of these local products.

The minister emphasised the need for periodic training to preserve the state's heritage of handloom and handicrafts. He also asked the corporation to explore opening a showroom in Chandigarh.

The corporation is implementing a Centre-sponsored Rs 23.38 crore project to aid artisans and weavers. Hundreds of artisans have benefitted from the project over the last few years. Renovation work has been completed for three emporia in Delhi, Dharamsala and Manali, while the renovation of three other emporia, two at Chamba and one in Shimla, is in progress. As many as 120 design and technical development workshops and 20 entrepreneur development programmes have been organised, benefiting around 2,500 artisans in the current fiscal.
